Considering doing a cross-country tour (via “oh weird, I have hype in Ottawa I guess”) next spring/summer.

Trying to plan it out and jeez, is it ever weird. Gonna try my best to make it happen though.

STRANGE FIRES MIX 1

image

I’m gonna start doing mixes now, here’s the first.

  1. The Units - High Pressure Days (been digging weirdo synth punk stuff lately, and The Units’ Digital Stimulation is some of the best weirdo synth punk stuff around)
  2. William Onyeabor - Good Name (bangin’ groove)
  3. The Beach Boys - Child is Father of the Man (Bootleg Edit) (I recently got obsessed with Smile to the point that it became my favourite album and I sought out tons of old bootlegs of it. This edit has become maybe my favourite version of this song.)
  4. Warehouse - Heterochromia (random Bandcamp find I’m really into lately. not big on the vocals, but oh man, those guitars. check their album out here.)
  5. Freak Heat Waves - Cradle of Fear (this song’s a bit of a weird one for these guys [usually they sound like Women if they were more straight up Krautrock-y], but there’s something about it I dig. weird electronics, strangely funky, it’s cool. the whole compilation this song’s from, meet the factory, is pretty much all stupidly good stuff; I also really like the monomyth, sheer agony, and freelove fenner tracks and so should you)
  6. The Archaics - Callooh Callay (only locals I put on this mix! even if, in my opinion, edmonton’s music scene is a bit too garage-centric right now, these guys still blow me away whenever I see em. I think they’re only like 19-20, and they’re one of the tightest bands going here. really cool black lips/strokes vibes on this one.)
  7. Caves - Nirvanaman (saskatoon has some really cool bands, and this is one of em. traded tapes with peter from this band at sled island last summer, he dug my stuff, hoping we can do a show together some time soon)
  8. Paul McCartney - Secret Friend (mccartney ii has become sort of my go-to “hey, wanna hear something that’ll blow yr mind a bit?” album to put on in the car with friends. I know it blew mine a bit. that album’s basically macca getting zooted and playing with synths, and it’s great. this one’s a b-side, and it’s worth trying to track down the 3-disc version of this album that has all the b-sides and stuff, it’s pretty much all good.)

Walkabout tapes now available!

Was Googling the Sansui WS-X1 today, because I’ve had one for a bit and I was looking for some info on it. Found this. Going back to cassette recording for the next release for sure.
